Founded in 2013 by siblings Mariyam and Yusuf Hussainy, our journey is deeply rooted in honoring heritage, cherishing nature, and serving communities. our journey
A Dream Built on Family, Passion, and Vision
After distinguished careers spanning over a decade, siblings Mariyam and Yusuf Hussainy decided to merge their professional journeys into a shared vision, rooted in their mother’s dreams. In 2013, they founded Serene SPACEs—a studio for Planning, Architecture and Creative Expressions.
“It is through the spaces we create, that we express the dreams and aspirations of our clients, and it is through these spaces, that the inhabitant experiences the serenity of its surroundings.”
After starting the practice, they had the privilege of working on multiple projects, but their efforts truly stood out when they were entrusted to write the Smart Kitchen Guide for Faiz Ul Mawaid il Burhaniyah, which earned them nationwide recognition for transforming kitchens into efficient, modern spaces.
Over time, their practice expanded, embracing green design principles and achieving IGBC accreditation. A landmark achievement was the design of a 25-acre pilgrim resort, where they implemented water conservation, rainwater harvesting, retrofitting, and seamless landscaping. These initiatives reflect their commitment to creating eco-friendly spaces that respect nature and the communities they serve.

Meet our Leaders
As co-founder and Principal Architect of Serene SPACEs, Mariyam Hussainy brings over 20 years of global experience, spanning industrial design, hospitality, residential architecture, and heritage restoration. Her exceptional work has transformed spaces around the world, including the iconic Ujjwala Condoville, City Center-2 Mall in Kolkata, and the ambitious Bhendi Bazaar Upliftment Project in Mumbai, a 13-acre urban regeneration initiative. Mariyam has also led the design of prestigious projects such as the 252-key Mohammedi Makaan Hotel in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, and the restoration of cultural landmarks like Raudat Tahera, which features the complete Quran inscribed on its walls.
Her career also includes significant collaborations with esteemed global firms, including Search Architects and Tricone Inc. (USA), where she gained invaluable international experience. With a commitment to sustainable design practices, Mariyam is an IGBC Accredited Professional, consistently striving to create environments that combine aesthetic beauty, function, and environmental responsibility. At Serene SPACEs, she continues to redefine the architectural landscape by blending tradition with innovation, ensuring that every project leaves a lasting impact on people and communities.

Yusuf Hussainy

With over 20 years of experience in architecture, design, and construction, Yusuf Hussainy is a visionary architect known for blending creativity, functionality, and sustainability in his work. His career has been shaped by collaborations with renowned figures like Padma Shri B.V. Doshi, Vijay Ratan Dr. Barjor D. Cooper, and Ar. Prashant Deshmukh, among others. These experiences have enriched his understanding of diverse architectural practices and refined his approach to meaningful, context-sensitive design.
A key milestone in Yusuf’s career was his involvement in the design of FLAME University, where he worked alongside Vastu Shilpa Consultants on a 70-acre campus, contributing to the broader 1500-acre master plan. This project profoundly influenced his architectural philosophy, emphasizing human scale, cultural relevance, and the integration of form with function. Yusuf’s portfolio spans industrial, commercial, residential, and interior design, with a focus on creating spaces that are aesthetically compelling, sustainable, and impactful for generations to come.
